Clean drinking water may not be available after a disaster -- your regular water supply may be cut off or contaminated, and local store shelves may be empty. And while you may last up to three weeks without food, most experts agree that three to five days is the longest you’ll live without water.
Providing clean drinking water to large groups during disasters is a logistical and economic challenge – damaged roads and unreliable infrastructure can often hamper even the best intended centralized distribution plans. You need a portable, high-capacity solution that meets your requirements yet doesn’t bust your budget.
Even aboard the most luxurious cabin cruiser, space is limited. Simply reaching over the side of the boat and scooping up water to drink is not likely to be a safe idea. Chlorine is often added to water to kill microbes, and your water may pick up iron and other metals from the pipes in your home. Water softeners may make your water softer, but not necessarily better tasting, and certainly not any cleaner. And then there’s the problem of all that salt you have to buy.
